  1. treats that's the best way call them by there name every time you feed them and have them out and when they came to you give them a treat trust me there easy to train

  2. I have a pair much like yours! I have A PEW (albino) and an agouti.

Anyways, don't let them free-roam until they know their name. Litter training them first is also helpful. What you can do, is put them on a bed with no blankets hanging down and nothing else on it. Sit on the bed and let them crawl on you, pet them lightly and offer them treats to get socialized.

Learning their name should come next. Get some small treats that can be eaten fast, like peas. Put the ratties on the bed again and go to the foot of the bed. Hold out the treat and call for them. It might be easier to teach them to come with one word instead of their names. You could use "Come here!" Your voice should be gentle. Do this for about 5 minutes each day.

  3. food always helps when training a rat

  4. Hey,

Me and my boyfriend just got two new baby husky rats, there adorable!

We firstly made sure they bonded with us with treats and then before we let them roam we made sure to cover any holes and anything they could hide under with cardboard :)

  5. Let them crawl all over you and give them scritches. Rats bond with you very quickly- especially when you get them young and give them loads of attention. They love running in and out of your shirt. I used to put mine on my bed and let them run and play over the doonah and made an obstacle course with the pillows so they could climb on them and burrow through them.

Feeding them and giving them treats will also help you to bond with them. Try feeding them baby food or yoghurt drops are another favorite.

I won mine over when I decided to give them baby food by dipping my finger in it and letting them l**k it off... they love to l**k and kiss and they never bit me.

When your rat is tame and loves you they just want to be with you all of the time so you shouldn't have to worry about them running away.

  6. Uhhh, you might want to get them used to you, and bonded slightly to you before you start letting them on the floor and stuff. Try setting them on a table to let them roam and try and train them. Remember, bribery with small tidbits of food works wonders.

  7. Don't worry....make sure there is no way for them to escape out the room and make sure that all wires and holes are made rat proof.  Once you have done this you can let them out.  Rats are not like hamsters, they will come back if they are hungry.  If you cannot retrieve your rat by hand, try using a closed shoe box with a little hole cut in it and some of the rat's bedding in it.  Most inquisitive rats will go straight into the box and then you will be able to pick it up and put the rat back in the cage.  If you fail to catch the rat, just leave his cage open over night with fresh food and water in it.  It is most likely possible that you will find your rat snuggled up in his bed by the time you wake up.  Rats are clever (and lazy), and know that food magically appears in their cage, and so they are no way gonna spend a whooole day out their cage looking for another source of food.

    xx

  8. They will not wander. They are prey animals. Instinctively, if they are in a new place, they will run ot hte nearest form of security and hide there. So if you place them onto a floor, they might run off, but only to hide. They feel very unsafe in open areas. I suggest you first hold them a bit more, and then start letting them out when they feel comfortable with you. This is so it won't look like you are going to eat them when you try to put them back in their cage.
