  1. It always depends if it is MBITps or if it is MBYTEps. So if you have a connection speed of 800 KBitsps you can download only with a max. speed of 100KBytesps;-)Thats the first reson. And the second reason depends on the technology, if you have a provider which does not use seppareted lines (normally cable doesn't use them), then 3mbps is the MAXIMUM, so if there are several persons downloading the same time, then you will have less bandwith. Else there are sepparted lines (normally DSL) in which you normally get the MAXIMUM bandwith (or close to).

And third reason could be, that 2wire.com doesn't support that fast connections, because they send you a file and maybe there upload is max. 1.68 mbps, so you can only get their file with a maximum of 1.68mbps.

  2. 3mbps is the capacity of the line, your download speed with be much lower.

Same reason why on the old 56k modems, you only downloaded at 7-10kb.

  3. your speed depends on network usage, your 3mbps is the top speed you provider will provide to you at your level of service, it's not a guarantee that you will get that speed. Your speed is not that bad though.

  4. I don't know try http://www.speedtest.net/

  5. if you have cable you share bandwidth with people around you so if your friend next door is downloading something your internet will be slower.. 1.6meg is not bad for just normal usage now if you run a server or use it for gaming its pushing it

  6. it just does ask your internet provider. your downloading speed will always be slower. but 1.68 mbps per second is freaking fast as. what you want faster or something. mine only goes average of 150 kbps not mbps.
