  1. THIS IS DIRECTLY FROM THEIR WEBSITE: It gives you the SAT and other Qualifications you need to get in

    FRESHMAN ADMISSION

High school graduates who have earned less than 30 semester hours (45 quarter hours) of transferable college credit coursework (not including joint enrollment and advanced placement credits) will be classified as freshman applicants..

The successful freshman applicant will demonstrate his or her potential for success by completing a rigorous College Preparatory Curriculum with a competitive grade point average, show strong SAT or ACT score results and provide a well developed personal essay. The middle 50% of the Fall 2007 entering freshmen class had SAT total scores ranging from 1060 to 1180 (Critical Reading and Math subscores only), and high school grade point averages ranging from 3.06 to 3.60 (calculated on academic courses only). These numbers are provided only as guidelines.

Admissions decisions are based on the total student portfolio, demonstrated potential for contribution to the University, and probability for success in the unique environment of the GCSU community. In the application review process, GCSU strives to discover students who will bring academic and creative achievements, elements of diversity, a proven commitment to community service and who have the potential to make significant contributions to society. GCSU seeks inquisitive freshmen who exhibit the desire to develop an analytical mind; a sense of civic and global responsibility; sound ethical principals; respect for human diversity and individuality; effective writing, speaking and qualitative skills; and a healthy lifestyle.

Admission into Georgia College & State University is becoming more and more difficult. Up to forty five percent of applications received have been turned away.  This comes on the heels of GCSU having the third highest SAT scores for incoming freshman for Fall 2006.

With over 3,500 applications received, the GCSU admissions office has formed a highly competitive pool of prospective students to choose from.

This years pool is the most competitive it has ever been at GCSU, with just over 1,900 applicants being accepted to this point, an admission rate of just fifty five percent.

Senior assistant director of admissions Jesse Bowen believes tougher admissions will only make the university stronger.

Ã¢Â€ÂœHaving a competitive admissions policy will not only benefit current students and staff, but the alumni as well,” said Bowen.  Ã¢Â€ÂœGCSU is becoming a strong, academically minded environment.”

Applications were received from all over the state.  Well

rounded students with excellent academics and extra curricular activities were selected first.

Kayla McCollam, future GCSU student, was one such applicant.

Ã¢Â€ÂœWell I am the president of my class and in a lot of clubs, so I know that helped me get accepted, I was on the waiting list for a while until they finally accepted me,” she said with a smile. “I know quite a few of my friends haven’t been admitted yet.”

Bowen believes admission into GCSU will only get tougher as the university gains popularity around the state.

Ã¢Â€ÂœWe are becoming the first choice for many students, with the type of education we offer with our smaller class sizes,” Bowen said.  Ã¢Â€ÂœWe have become a great option for students who wish to further their education
