  1. Slow speed mixture. Without the spring it won't stay where you put it.

Now, with it 1 1/2 turns out, start the motor and use the throttle to set the RPM's where it will just stay running.  Start turning the s***w in, 1/8 turn at a time.  Give the engine a second or two to respond.  RPM's should increase;  each time lower the RPM's so it will just stay running.  Eventually you'll reach a point where turning the s***w in makes it run worse, it might start spitting a little.  Somewhere in the last 1/4 turn you'll find the smoothest running.

If you can't get it to run smooth, you'll need to take the carb off, disassemble, soak the metal parts overnight in carb cleaner, put it back together with a new carb kit, reinstall, and readjust the slow speed mixture.

Once you get it right, you won't have to move it again until the carb comes off for the next rebuild.

  2. jtexas  is right, but -and this goes a long way back I think chrysler-oops I mean Force had a press in main metering jet that they keep in place with a little ball point pen spring which pointed straight down into the float bowl.(any of this sound familiar to anybody?)nobody else did it because the spring  would fall into the motor housing the first time you took the float bowl apart. You can tell if its gone by sticking your finger into the carb past the choke butterfly (if you have real small fingers) and try to wiggle the brass tube sticking up the middle of the throat. If its lose, any spring will do.
