Okay, so I was delivering pizzas for the restaurant I work for and I forgot an item that a customer order so I made a U-turn and was going down a straight away, and a cop went by me and then made a U-turn and gave me a speeding ticket, a 49 in a 30mph. This is my 1st ticket ever and I should plead not guilty right? This way it will be dropped down to a non-moving violation right? Please help me out.

  1. Please correct me if I am wrong but here in California anything 15 Mph over the speed limit is reckless driving and the cop can take you to jail.

I would say the chances of the cop showing up in court is pretty good considering most of them get paid overtime to go to court.

If it was me, I'd just go in plead guilty, ask for a reduction in fine and traffic school. Chalk it up to a lesson learned. Pizza delivery people get paid by the hour plus tips. Just slow down, drive the speed limit and you will be fine from here on out.

  2. Okay so you plead not guilty.  Then the judge says "why are you not guilty?" and you say "because you are suppossed to knock it down to a minor boo boo if I plead guilty, they said so on Yahoo!Answers."

By the way, why did you wait until the last second to get help.  You don't sound very responsible to me.  You need a stiff fine and a license suspension.

  3. If you plead not guilty, the case will go to trial.  The Officer proves that you were exceeding the posted speed limit, and you're found guilty.

A lot of bad advice is being given on this forum.

  4. looks like the only way you can win is if the cop doesn't show up for court.  if the cop doesn't show up & the judge asks you what happened, don't tell him that you were speeding! you're admitting your guilt if you do that. don't say anything or just plead the 5th.

or you could just pay the fine & go to traffic school.  they even have online traffic school.  then it's not on your driving record & it's like it never happened.

    good luck!

  5. You don't have any justification to fight it.  You were speeding and there was no emergency.  Best advise would be just pay the ticket and take a safe drivers class to avoid points on your license which can effect your insurance.

  6. Id say plead not guilty. You can fight anything and win. Seriously, if its your first offence, and you plead your case well, youll win or it'll be knocked down. Either way, you might as well fight it - it costs nothing to do, and you have a 50/50 chance of winning. Worst comes to worst, you just pay the original fine and continue on with life.
