I live in illinois and filed for unemployment last friday i received a debit card from the unemployment office with no money on it and this morning i just did my bi weekly call to certify my claim and i believe their calling me for an interview on wednesday so i have a couple of questions.

1.When will i receive my first unemployment check?

2.Can they deny me now even though they sent me a card and i just called in to certify my claim this morning?

3.What will this other phone interview from them consist of?

I did quit my last job but I quit to concentrate on completing high school and I could not work and focus on that at the same time but wouldn't it be stupid for them to send me a card then tell me to certify my claim and then not give it to me?

  1. you can not get unemployment from quiting your job

    1. you must be fired

    2. you must be unemployed for 6 months

    3. then you can have unemployment if they can not find you a job

  2. I dont know what that guy is talking about:

First of all,you dont have to  be unemployed for 6 months to file.....as soon as u are no longer working u apply for unemployment benefits.

Secondly everyone who filed after 7/31/08 were given the new debit card,I have been on unemployment since January of this year and I was getting the paper checks but last week I received the debit card because Im told you get your money faster and it is safe.

Every other Wednesday(my certification day)I call and certify and I ALWAYS have my check in the mailbox on that friday afternoon, not a day later.Tommorrow I shall certify and Im told I will recieve my benefits on Thursday however I am unsure as to morning or midnight.

As long as at the end of the teleserve call they told u your claim was accepted you should have money on that card no later two business days.

Dont tell them that u quit your job whatever you do!They are trying to determine if you are eligible for money. But again if teleserve told you that the claim was accepted you should have you money on your card before the phone interview.

You still need to do that phone interview to keep your future benefits coming, they will stop if you dont

P.S did you tell them you were in a  training program/school because they will deny you if so,if you pressed that on teleserve tell them during the interview it was a mistake, trust me, it wil prevent you.Its stupid but you have to answer the questions in a certain way.
