  1. What's a Degu???

  2. Because of the small population of Degus in the country inbreeding inevitably occurs. This can cause many health

problems, small size and genetic defects such as club feet. Degus can be sexually mature as young a couple of months, although this is unusual. The gestation period is long for rodents at about 90 days and the babies are born with fur and teeth and their eyes are often already open. Only a few hours after their birth they will start searching surroundings of the nest box. Soon after this, they will also start eating normal food. They can be removed from their parents at 8 weeks and it is important to remove the females from their father promptly or he could mate with them. idea is to keep a male baby in with dad and a female with mom.

  3. Hi

We breed our degus regular so i have some experience in what goes on and what to do...

Make sure the mother has plenty of food and water and is separated from any males as she can get pregnant again straight away, which you might not want... Try not to handle the babies for the first couple of days as this can cause defects later in life and also i dont think their mummy will like it very much. Also make the nest box as comfy as possible with plenty of whatever bedding it is that you use. Good luck with you new additions, if you want any more advice please contact me.

  4. A degu is a small rodent that is native to Chile

  5. what is a degu? no idea...

but it is in the category rodents, so I will answer for hamsters. if a hamster has babies, you must not touch the cage or try to look at the babies, because the mother will eat them. so I would say: do nothing. animals can usually handle their babies on their own.

provide lots of food so that you do not have to disturb your animal too often.
