I got a job at arbys 2 weeks ago is there any way i can try and caculate how much i will get back in taxes?

i make 8 dollars an hour and i work about only 18 hours a week if i claim my self instead of my mom claiming me is there a way i can calculate how much i will get back in taxes also say i let my mom claim me would she get less or more because i have a job?

You don't have the option of "letting" your mom claim you.  If you aren't providing over half of your own support, and  you most likely are not if you still live with your mom, she can claim you and doesn't need your permission, and you can't claim yourself even if she didn't claim you.  Your job won't make any difference in what she gets back.

    For this year, you aren't likely to owe any federal income tax, so if any is being withheld, you'll get it all back - that's the income tax, not the social security or medicare.  If no income tax is deducted, then there isn't anything to "get back".

    If you work those same hours ALL year for 2009, you are likely to owe some tax then.


  2. $8/hour x 18 hours/week = $144/week, multiplied by about 22 weeks, gives $2908, clearly less than $5000.

    No, as I said, in my answer to the other question, it doesn't look as if you can claim yourself, but you shouldn't owe any Federal income tax unless your gross salary for the year exceeds the (unmodified) standard deduction, which doesn't look as if it's going to happen.
