it was my first time ever getting pulled over and i was nervous. in the process of getting my license i drop my cig out the window. The cop then asked if my car had an ashtray (which it doesn't) and i said no> i drive a chrysler pt cruiser. I use a smokeless cup ashtray. he told me if i DIDN'T pick it up he would write me a ticket. So i picked it up and he still wrote me a ticket..Is there anyway i can get out of a littering ticket?

  1. No. You deserved it.  Not only did you risk other drivers' safety by speeding, you risk starting yet another fire.  You may think that one little cig. butt won't start a fire, but it has happened and will continue to happen because of people like you. Slow down and do yourself a favor: stop smoking.

  2. I write those all the time. Nothing bugs me more than littering.

Unless you go to court and prove to the judge that you didn't litter, there isn't really a whole lot you can do to get out of it.

Just tell your side of it and apologize.

  3. Ick - an example of a cop that gives all cops bad names. Fighting it is going to be more trouble than it's worth. Just pay the fine and get them out of your hair.

  4. most officers will only give citations like this out if you are being rude to the officer. For instance, on a ride along we pulled someone over for speeding. The man gave the officer attitude, didnt want to provide his registration, hesitant about giving the officer his license  so he wrote him the ticket for speeding, not wearing a seatbelt, and littering (he threw his cig out the window). I dont know what happend with you, some officers just have bad days and will hit you for every violation you have committed.

  5. You have two choices:

    1)  Pay the fine and learn to extinguish your smoke before you give the next cop your license, or

    2)  Contest the ticket and tell the judge your story and hope he or she buys it.

Oh, you might consider quitting and you won't have that problem ever again!

Best of luck on whatever you decide to do.

  6. Pay the fine and move on.  You'll waste more time than it will be worth.
