  1. are the both male? owning to male pets isn't a good idea (unless its spayed dog and cats etc) its a territorial thing.

if not you can try before putting them together again clean the cage fully so it doesn't smell like one or the other

  2. dont take out all of the places!

or, put them in different cages!

  3. How old are they? That could be the problem. If they are both young there may be going around that right now. It is very hard to put two young pigs together, especially boys.

The poster that said you can't put  pigs of the same s*x together is wrong. It might just take some work. I currently have 4 boys living in the same cage. How big is the cage? If it is too small, that could be a problem. Have two of everything...bottle, food dishes, beds, etc...

One of the reasons it was suggested to take out the houses, is because if one gets trapped in their, they will fight. Try using small plastic stools that will allow them to run outside the other side if they need to.

You can also try a buddy bath.

    Good luck.

  4. When introducing them, it should be in completely neutral territory that is new to them.  They will usually fight to establish dominance, but that will only last for a few weeks at most.  It is completely natural for them to do that, but if either of them sheds blood or seems injured in any way, separate them.  There's no reason to pull them apart after tiny squabbles, though.  It's better for them if they fight it out and usually, once that stage is over, they'll find peace.

  5. I have two FEMALE guinea pigs and they have been together for 4 years. No fights. But I have learnt a bit of their behaviour so I think you should keep them seperate, and every now and then, about once a week, let them go into the same area BUT NOT THE CAGE. After a while put them toghether more often until they seem to like each other. Then ( if possible) make it so the two guinea pigs can, but don't have to, go into each others' cage. If they begin to fight start again. If they don't react try again some other day or ,if possible, leave them with  the choice. If they wander into the others cage and don't fight GREAT!

  6. You can't just put two animals together like that and expect them to be buds right away. You need to take out the new one and keep him somewhere separate for a little while and properly introduce them. Let them sit in separate cages near each other so they can see & smell the other without getting to it. Then switch their cages so they can get the other's scent. You don't have to leave them in the cage long, just 10-20 minutes.

Don't introduce them in the cage, as that is considered your old guinea pig's territory! Of course they will fight, the old piggy sees the new one as an intruder. Introduce them somewhere like the bathroom, which is no one's territory.

There may be scuffles, but that's OK. Once they seem to be getting along, you can introduce them in the cage. Clean it completely. Wipe down everything, change the bedding, clean all the hidey houses and toys. Then introduce them there. It may take a lot of time, days, weeks. Introductions can be hard, but piggies love company so eventually it should work out. Good luck!

P.S. It's a myth that two of the same s*x can't be together. Not true! You just need to take the intros SLOW and get them used to each other.

  7. Never put two guinipigs the same s*x in the same cadge. They will fight over the dominant male or female and, well, they could get seriously hurt.

The solution? Buy another cadge! Or just dont take out all the hidy places!

Gives you different introduction techniques. Some guinea pigs have to be introduced using multiple of these techniques. With patience, most guinea pig pairs can be successfully paired up. A good rule of thumb is.. if there is no bloodshed, leave them alone. They will sort out. Good Luck!

  9. Okay, it sounds like the two piggies are currently in separate cages. Even if they can't see eachother they can still hear and smell eachother so that isn't an issue.

When you want to put them together again:

Get the cage you want to keep them both in and clean it thoroughly, the floor, the bars etc. Everything. Clean all the toys, hideys etc as well. You want to remove all smells so that the cage is "neutral" otherwise one piggie will try to defend its territory.

When you are ready to introduce them do so in a large, neutral area (eg on the floor in a safe room or pen). Put them both in at the same time and let them get on with it. Once they are a bit settled, put them both into the clean cage.

You do not describe the "fighting" so I will have to guess. Piggies need to establish their dominance heirarchy (ie work out who is boss). This is common when introducing new piggies, or when they go through puberty etc.

Squabbling to assert dominance is completely normal. You should expect squeeking, chasing, mounting, nose-butting, rumblestrutting (they walk tall and make a purr like noise) etc. All this is normal and nothing to worry about.

Once you reintroduce your piggies let them get on with it and stay together.

If you put them together, then separate, then put back together etc. they will have to re-establish dominance every time, so the "fighting" will go on longer and you won't seem to be getting anywhere.

Once they are together do NOT separate them unless they draw blood.(It is rare for females to fight seriously)

    Good luck

  10. my two guinea pigs used to fight when they were in the cage together, too. then we asked the pet store lady and she told us that when two males or females are together they never really like it and they start to fight, so we had to give one of our guinea pigs back. i think you should ask your vet and he/she might know what to do.

    hope i helped!!!
