  1. Sounds like a silver certificate. Take it to your local bank for indentification.


  2. it is worth face value to financial institutions and uncle sam, however it is worth more to coin and money collectors.  collectors will many times pay a premium to get ahold of the bill.  condition, age, and amount of star notes released in that particular year will vary the amount they would offer.  go into a coin shop, and they might buy it from you.  here is an explanation of the star...

  3. Is the star drawn onto the bill with a pen or marker? If it is, then it most likely is a real dollar bill. If it is actually part of the design of the bill, then... no.

  4. On a strap of new bills from the Federal reserve it says, "if the numbers on notes in this package do not run in sequence, the substituted notes are indicated by a star."

    It means the first time they printed them they were imperfect and the second time they printed them (with the same serial number) they used a star.
