  1. most fantail fish are types of gold fish if they are in the goldfish family then no they do not need a heater

  2. No.  Fantails are goldfish and are cold water fish.  No heater is needed unless where the tank is housed drops below 50 degrees.  SOme people do run heaters on these tanks to keep the temperature stable due to A/C or basement temps that drop.  A heater will only kick on when the water temperature drops below 65.  They are fine in water 55-75  no worries.

Your fish are dying due to other problems.  How old is your tank?  Is it fully cycled?

What are your water temps now?  Are you adding a water conditioner/dechlor?  There are many questions that would need answered before we can help figure out why they are dying.

  3. They don't need a heater. They live in cold water climates.

You may put a heater if you like but don't let it be scorchering hot in

there just a little bit of heat.Anyway they just don't live with a heater.

So just there is no need to waste money.

  4. if your aquarium temp does not go below 10c and above 20c it should be fine
