I got a sony micro vault 8gb usb flash drive and i think it failed if thats possible

my flash drive worked good until a couple days ago my when i plugged it in my computer would not regonize it it would say to use this device you must format it so i format it and it says unable to complete format and then shortly after when i try to close it windows explorer stops responding any ideas it costed $80

You might take Paul's advice and return it. Most likely, there is no problem with it. Have you noticed that the USB drive is directional. Perhaps you inserted it backwards. Look at the drive, and see that one side is thicker, much like power cords have one prong thicker than the other. You can physically insert it backward, but perhaps that is the source of your problem. Try turning it over.
