I got a speeding ticket for going 6 miles over the speed limit and the cop told me it won't affect my insuranc

Is this true? it was in town and he said it was a non-moving violation, but how can it be non-moving, because i was moving.

  1. maybe he shouldnt be a cop if he dont know the laws, yes it is a moving violation, it will affect your insurance but you can take a defensive driving class that should help take the ticket off your record which in turn will help your insurance

  3. The term "non-moving" is a legal term that should not be taken literally.  I think that he meant that because you were less than 10 mph over the limit, it is more like bald tires or a broken headlight than a major violation.

    A ticket for going only 6 mph faster than the limit is weird.  It usually takes at least 10, sometimes 15.  Is there something you are not telling us?

  4. The reason most speeding tickets don't affect your insurance is because most insurance companies don't check your driving record unless you're applying for insurance or moving your insurance to another company. As long as you stay put(in terms of companies), you should be fine.
