Question:

I got a speeding ticket in Hawaii (going 73 in a 55mph zone). How should I contest this ticket?

I prefer to write a letter instead of appearing in court. (I have this option in Hawaii). Should I admit & explain the mitigating circumstances, or should I deny the charges & contest the ticket? (I have three options - 1) admit & pay, 2) deny & contest, 3) admit & explain mitigating circumstances.)

Which one is more likely to get me off (or at least lessen my fine)? What is the best way to word this letter?

There was a moderate amount of traffic on the highway, and I was just following the flow of traffic. I had no idea I was speeding until the cop pulled up behind me & I looked at my speedometer.... Do I have a chance?

Thanks!!!

  1. Plead no contest. You are not admitting guilt or innocence. If you try and fight it and you lose, you will only end up costing yourself more, with higher fines and possibly license suspension and/or probation.

You WERE speeding. You got caught. Face up to it and use it as a learning experience. SLOW DOWN.

    EMT

  2. admit, pay and SLOW DOWN!!!!!

  3. Be honest and pay it. I think people think they can break the law and get out of everything now a days.

  4. I'm sorry but from what you told me... sounds like you're not getting out of the ticket.  Just pay it and face the concenquences.  it would be HARD to get out of that one... sorry.

  5. You were speeding.  If I were you, I would try and stall and drag it out.  Maybe the courts will keep making you go back so you can stay in Hawaii longer.

  6. admit the err and pay your fine...wiggling out of guilt does not help you...however you can take a drivers course and get the fine reduced and maybe even droped..honesty is the best policy, even it was by accident....what are you gonna explain to the migristic(ms)... a cop pulled me over and when i looked at my speedometor, i could see why he pulled me over...i was speeding...now that ive explained, let me go....works everytime...lol   just joking , dont get mad

  7. I would go with ask for traffic school.

  8. Pay up and admit unless you have a really good reason for speeding (life emergency)  otherwise your wasting your time.

  9. You shouldent unless you want to make a fool out of yourself. listen you went about 20 over teh Limit please

  10. You haven't got a chance in h**l of winning unless you get a $2,000.00 and hour lawyer.

Write the letter, explain in your own words what happened and ask for traffic school.
