So I got a second milksnake (this ones a creamsicle) that stays in a separate enclosure its just over 2 years old. The lady I got it from said her 6 year old son handles it fine but he has tried to strike at me twice just today when i was attempting to get him out. I don't want to use a snake hook or anything but Im thinking more along the lines of something like gloves to handle him and get him adjusted to me. Any suggestions?

  1. Ummm, there's no such thing as a creamsicle milksnake. Creamsicle is a corn snake. Why don't you want to use a snake hook? I recommend that over some gloves. First, give it some time to calm down in its new surroundings if you just got it. Secondly, reach in from behind the snake. A hand coming right at its face can scare it, causing it to act this way. That's why a hook is better than your hand.

  2. give him some time to get used to his new enclouser a day or two and try again

  3. Just a pair of light weight leather gloves and keep him out of your face. Let him get used to you for a while and be patient. Short handling sessions are better than long and they should be frequent.
