And my mouth is pretty sore not so much when its relaxed but when my teeth have pressure applied to them they hurt. So I was wondering will it hurt to brush my teeth with an electric toothbrush my orthodontist gave me?

Also what should I eat? I ate soup and pudding after, but what are some other good food suggestions?

Thanks.

  1. yea your mouth will b a lil sore for a couple of days (mayb 3 days)

It probably will hurt if u use an electric toothbrush

eat anything like soup, pudding, yogurt, jello, pancakes, basically anything soft

  2. Ouch! Your teeth will be sore for a few days, and then they will be sore again after you go in and get your wires adjusted every month or so. It may be alittle sore to brush with an electric brush, but I don't see why it would be any worse than a regualr one. And if your orthodontist gave it to you, you should use it.

A few soft things to eat are: Smooth yogurt, or yogurt without a lot of chunks. You could also take chunky yogurt and puree it in a blender to break down the chunks. Also, try the new yogurt in a tube, available at most grocery stores.

Various soft cheeses, such as brie, cottage cheese, and thinly sliced Swiss, cheddar, harvarti, etc.

    Milk-based drinks

    Custard

    Pudding

    Breads and Baked Goods

Any type of soft bread that does not have seeds, nuts, or pieces of whole grains. If you like whole-wheat bread, look for one that has a smooth texture. Tear off the crust if necessary.

    Muffins without nuts or chunks

    Corn bread, corn muffins

    Soft cakes

Tortillas (corn and flour, microwaved or steamed until soft)

    Pancakes

Saltine crackers and matzo are often soft enough to smoosh at the roof of your mouth with your tongue

    Grains

    Couscous

    Quinoa

    Pasta

    Noodles

    Soft-cooked rice, risotto

    Bulgur

    Kasha

Farro wheat (cooked very soft like risotto)

    Polenta

    Matzo balls

    Grits

    Meats and Poultry

    Soft-cooked chicken

    Bar-b-que type soft cooked meat

    Meatloaf

    Chicken salad

    Thinly sliced lunch meats

    Meatballs

Many meat recipes that you make in a crock pot or pressure cooker are very tender

Chicken nuggets cut into very small pieces

    Meat Alternatives

Tofu can be made in many ways and is always easy to eat.

    Seafood

    Soft-cooked fish

    Fish croquettes (salmon, tuna)

    Fish loaf (tuna, salmon)

    Tuna, salmon, or whitefish salad

    Frozen flavored fish filets

    Crab cakes

Fish sticks (non-crunchy, cut into small pieces)

    Soups

Look in your local grocery store for soups that either don't contain chunks, or have very mushy ingredients.

    Vegetables

    Soft-cooked carrots, squash

    Mashed potatoes

    Potato pancakes

    Smooshed potato salad

    Cole slaw

Spinach or corn soufflé (Stouffer's makes a frozen one)

Fresh spinach, chard, kale, or other greens, cooked very soft or steamed and cut up.

    Avocados, guacamole

    Salsa (non-chunky)

    Beans (mashed it necessary)

    Hummus, various Middle Eastern dips

    Fruits

    Mashed bananas

Other ripe fruits that get mushy

    Treats

Ice cream without nuts or chunks, frozen yogurt, sorbet, sherbet, granita

    Milkshakes, smoothies

Most cold drinks make your teeth feel better - iced tea, iced coffee, etc. But be careful not to inadvertently drink too much caffeine!

    Soft cakes

Cheesecake that has been microwaved for 30 seconds to one minute (it gets a bit mushy and easier to eat)

    Cream pies

    Jell-O (gelatin)

    Pudding

    Shakes and Bars

    Protein shakes, Slim Fast, etc.

  3. i personally don't have braces.....yet. but i've done my research. :)

it's very possible you will feel discomfort while brushing teeth/eating for the first few days/weeks of having braces. but the first few days is the worst part, so once it's over, it's all down hill from there!

    -soup

    -pudding

    -jello

    -ice cream

    -smoothies

    -a soft bread/cake

    -macaroni

    -spaghettie, without meat balls

-some sort of casarol, that's light on the teeth.

goodluck! i hope i get braces one day!!

  4. when i had a retainer my teeth hurt alot at first. then i got braces and it didnt hurt. but i think if u use an electric toothbrush it isnt going to hurt as much as using an ordinary toothbrush because ur not applying pressure to it. u can eat almost anything. try to stay away from gum, popcorn, hard candies and nuts. (or anything hard) those will break the brackets on ur braces. and u dont want that to happen because it can mess up your teeth.

  5. Hi!   I have an electric toothbrush too, and when I got my braces, I couldn't even let it touch my teeth, so what I did was I just didn't turn on the vibrations at first, and after about three days, I switched the toothbrush setting to low.  Yogurt is good to eat, kiwis, peaches, if they aren't too hard, bananas,or soft noodles, and bread, it it's soft.   Good Luck with your braces!

  6. unfortunately i think brushing w/ any toothbrush for a few days will hurt you :( but if you like very lightly brush the surface you should be okay. when i got my braces on & tightened, i would lightly brush then use lots of mouth wash :)

soup & pudding is good, & so is jello, ice cream, yogurt, mashed potatoes, oatmeal, applesauce, & muffins

    good luck!

  7. I got my braces on Monday so I can help.  Alright first if your teeth hurt brushing will not hurt them more, although I do advise using a soft brush to be easier on the teeth. Make you brush after every meal and floss regularly, don't want white spots on your new smile do you? As for eating stay away from anything hard for now eat soft things like noodles, bananas, ice cream (which really does help for the pain) jello, mashed potatoes and so on.
