  1. I got out of it years ago for class.  They called me back on my winter break and I served on a one day trial.  Just call or write them that you are a full time student.  Good Luck.

  2. You can go to court and request that you not have to serve due to you attending school.  However, it is up to them if you are required to serve any way.

  3. You have to, your school will understand. Id take your place, but that's not how these things work.

  4. Use the system.

Contact the court, and your local State Rep or Senator.

    Be polite, and politically correct.

  5. Just send back your paperwork and fill in the area advising why you should be excused.... You'll get a letter back telling you your excused or wil be rescheduled at a later date

  6. Read you jury duty notice it should tell you what you who to notify if you can not serve.

  7. do your civic duty and quit you whining...that's the price you pay for the privilege of voting

oh, it's OK for a student to avoid jury duty, but working people should have to...don't hate me because I'm right...hate me because I'm a better American than you are

  8. I don't know where you are but where I am as long as you are CURRENTLY in the middle of taking classes then they'll excuse you. If it's in the summer and you're not taking classes then you have to serve. I wouldn't worry about it, they won't take you.

  9. Either call and ask for a defferment and explain your situation. They will most likely let you go, but if not, you have no choice but to serve.

  10. You request a deferrment... they can defer it up to 90 days.  There's no way "out" of it... you're PRIVELEGED to serve as a citizen...

  11. you ask for a deferment if you are not around your area they will understand. you should not have to drive home to do this. if you are around your area your professors should understand. i think you should go for the deferment and you will be sent a letter again and you will tell them again hey look i am a student dude. then eventually it will be summer and you will be called again probably : ).  and when you do have to do it bring a book.

  12. On the form it should say something about postponing for a maximum of 6 months if you need to, but this is a one time thing and if you postpone now you'll have to go the next time you get a notice.

  13. Change your address to a different county and send a copy of your new drivers license to the court along with your request to be excused.

  14. Try telling them that.

If it doesn't work then make comments about 9/11 being an inside job. You'll get off for sure.

  15. Ask for a postponement because you're a full time student - and request a petit jury assignment.

You'll have to serve eventually - but petit jury terms usually last only a few hours, or a day or two - while serving on a grand jury can take weeks.

I was advised to do this - (I was a stay at home mom with a young child at the time) and with the petit jury I only had to go in for a few hours and was dismissed.

  16. honestly, i dont believe that there is ANY way out of it. i think its mandatory. =[ or you could be held accountable. i live in florida so im not sure how the law works anywhere else

  17. well, you can try to say that you're a bigoted, hopelessly prejudiced person, who isn't capable of being impartial.... and i doubt that it will help you.

you could go the 'charlie manson' route, and wear a shirt with a swastika on it (or carve one into your forehead), and i also doubt that that will help, you'd probably be held in contempt of court.

you could tell the judge that you're too busy, with being a full time student, and listen to him give you a lecture on civic responsibility.

if you are really determined to NOT serve, i'd say that you're pretty much scr@wed.  these days even lawyers and doctors and cops are stuck serving (and traditionally, those professions NEVER served on juries)

make the best of it, most people's jury service is short, only a day or so....

  18. Since I don't know where you are, I don't know the laws relating to jury duty in your locale.  However, many jurisdictions may excuse full-time students from serving.  You just need to inform the court.  How you do this should be listed on your jury summons notice.  In fact, your jury summons may even tell you information on who can be excused from serving.  If not, there may be a web site listed that you can also visit that may explain your options and whether or not you can be excused.

  19. just don't show up , there is a big enough pool of people that they might send you a notice to show up for another time , and then do it again

  20. Don't listen to any of these people.  You throw your notice in the trash and go about your business.  They might call you, possibly even threaten you but don't give in.  Just don't go and eventually they will not bother you anymore.

I had one jury duty notice when I was doing student teaching, which meant that I would have to redo the entire semester and graduate 3 months later.  I called them and they postponed my jury duty for a week...I was still in class.  So, I just didn't show up.  Haven't heard anything since and that was over 10 years ago.

  21. if u dont show up they will put out a warrant for u. i know from personal experience.

  22. It all depends on the judge.  Some will see that as a legitimate reason to dismiss you, others will not.  I was called for jury duty twice during my college days.  The first time he let me go, but two years later, another judge wouldn't consider my student status as a good enough reason to be exempt from jury duty.

  23. Write to the court or fill out the form on the summons and explain your situation. I recently got called too but my 3-year-old is going to start school for the first time and I'd also have trouble finding a babysitter for the duration of a trial. They thought that was valid and they excused me.

  24. Whenever the court sends you a summons for jury duty, tell them you are a jehovas witness and that jehova is to be the only judge of man. It has worked for me for 17 years.

  25. Been there...just ask for a deferment. Usually the court staff is very lenient with students. You will eventually have to serve though.

  26. Quit your bitchen and do your duty..don't be a slacker....

  27. You might can call or go to the court and talk to them about it and they might let you out of it but more an likely you will have to miss classes and serve.

  28. Its your duty as an American. Come on you can make up the classwork! :)

  29. When you decide that your personal needs outweigh the authority of the court, you decide to commit a crime called contempt of court.  In my state, that will get you 28 days in jail.  I would recommend reading the document carefully to see if you are exempt.  Otherwise, when people want to ignore the duties that come with citizenship, in the past they have gone to Canada or Switzerland.  If you show up and explain you will probably be excused.  If you simply blow it off, prepare for jail.

  30. just write on your notice that you are a full time student and mail it back in. It's a valid excuse.

  31. So?  Me! Me! Me!  Nobody else matters!
