got fleas, im moving, and I need a miracle, some advice please?;

I live in an apartment now (in iowa) And Im moving across state, sometime a year and a half ago I got fleas sometime before winter. I have two cats, we did the vaccuming everyday, bought flea powders, sprays, collars, and we THOUGH we got it controled, didnt see a flea for months, UNTIL summer hit, then they mysteriously appeared, I assume it was because of the temp change. We vaccum again now everyday, we bathe our cats onec a week, we've used the liquids between the shoulder blades, nothing is working, its getting bad. Well we're moving now, and I know i can get rid of the fleas in an empty apartment but im very scared of taking the fleas with me.

The people who own the apartments forbid bug bombs, which i dont think would work anyways because they dont kill the eggs, the apartment owners sent in someone who sprayed stuff in the corners but pft that didnt help obviously, and they will not let me call in someone on my own.

I need help, a miracle if you will. I need to know how I can prevent taking my not so friendly fleas with me.

Please give me advice, thank you so much. If you'd had this problem please explain in detail to me what you did.

(Also my cats have no where to go while i do this in my house, so i couldnt bomb it if i wanted to ive been told to use seven dust but im afraid of health concerns.)

  1. Take the seven dust advice...it won't harm your pets...We usually sprinkle it throughout our yard, carpet,  as well as on our pets fur (keep away from the face).  Too bad you can't use bug bombs...they work wonders.

  2. just wash through everything,daily wash the clothes and bedding and then just throw away anything you do not need rugs ect will carry this problem,if they nothing to feed on they will die so maybe it just a case of keep doing what your doing,and next place keep it up or the problem will just get out of control again,maybe your land lord knew this problem was already there before you ????????????

  3. Try sprinkling diatomaceous earth all over the carpeting. Wear a dust mask when doing so, being careful to not breathe in any dust. You can dust your bedding and leave it in all day as well, and then wash before sleeping that night.

    Diatomaceous earth is inert and not a poison, nor does it contain chemicals of any kind. It's a very, very fine powder that works by sticking to an insect and dehydrating them to death.

    Sprinkle it all over the carpeting, and allow it to sit there for a good 24 hours, then vacuum. Your apartments won't have a problem with this as it is not a chemical, and it won't hurt animals unless you have it all kicked up and you or they are breathing dust from it. They actually make a diatomaceous earth product that pets are intended to eat so that it can do the same thing to internal parasites that it does to insects.

  4. I just found this site, which appears to have *excellent* advice:

    Non-Toxic Flea Control Alternatives for Animal Health

    http://www.alt4animals.com/flea.htm

    I was looking for info on nematodes, & Dr. Falconer, DVM tells a little about those, & a lot about several other safe options:

    About Dr. Will Falconer, DVM, Homeopath, Acupunturist

    http://www.alt4animals.com/about.htm

    More nematode info can be Web-searched, there are several sites more dedicated to them than his.  But, I thought you'd like the variety of safe options, & that the advice is coming from an 'Alternative' DVM! (;

    Pets are a lot like children, & are certainly dependant on our care...  http://watchtower.org/e/20040222a/articl...

  5. wow,so even the flea treatment on the back of the cats neck isnt working??? all i can think is does anyone else in the building have cats/dogs who could be flea infested that are coming into your place? i have never known a flea live through all that you have done. good luck.
