My friend who is 16 and has his licence let me drive to Target, but I got distracted and crashed his car in a ditch but didn't hit anyone. I'm also 16 but I don't have my licence or permit. Whats going to happen to both of us?

  1. If no one was hurt, it depends if the police were involved. If they were, you will at least have to pay a fine for driving without a license and possibly reckless driving. Even if you had a permit, nowadays some states require an adult to be in the car. Insurance might not pay for the damage because you were driving.

  2. insurance usually follows the car and the fact that you did not have a license will not come into play. your friend will have to file a claim under his insurance company. more than likely they will pay to fix the car.  his parents premiums will go up.  his parents will owe a deductible.

  3. You'll be going to court is what you'll be doing. First of all, were there any tickets issued? If so, who got the tickets? Were you truthful at the time of the accident that you were driving & not your friend? If you were truthful about it when this occured, then that will help immensely. You'll probably receive a fine for driving without a liscence or permit & this could cause you to have to wait until you're 18 before driving again. Good luck!

  4. You will be responsible for any damages and probably lose your right to apply for a license until 18. Your friend could lose his license (and if police were called) and be fined for allowing an unlicensed and uninsured driver to operate the vehicle. His insurance will go way up and he may lose his license.

  5. you prob have to pay for the damage yourself (or with your parents help) if the cops were involved in this like taking a report and all more then likely it was reported to the insurance. Then that will raise the insurance on him. Why in the first place were you driving without a license nor a permit in the first place...a automobile isn't a toy. Thank goodness you didn't hit anybody.

  6. it really depends on the state and sometimes even more local laws are even more strict.

In my county, in southern illinois, you would not be permitted to get your license until you are 18 years old and you would also be responsible for any damages, not your friends insurance.  You might also get parole / community service.

As for your friend, he would also be held responsible for knowingly allowing a nonlicensed driver use his car.  He might just get parole / community service, but he also might lose his license.

But like I said...every state and local government is entitled to establish their own laws.

Good luck and I hope you can stay friends with your friend.

  7. Did the cops come?  You can loose your lic begore you even get it.  Your friend may loose his for letting you drive.

  8. Both your parents will discipline you both.  You probably won't get driving priviledges for a while.  If a cop had to write you a ticket, then you'll have to pay the fine for driving without a license, and failure to control a vehicle.  That may delay your ability to get a license before age 18.  Like s*x before marriage, there are consequences to your actions.  There's a reason we have age limits and proper training, as you're finding out.
