over the phone i ordered internet service and telephone service with my local phone company, will epuipment come to my house to hook up the internet how does that work?

You'll get a modem.  Hook the phone line to a phone jack.  Hook the computer to the modem.  (If you want to use more than one computer at a time you'll have to buy a router, unless your company supplies you with a modem that has more than 1 computer jack.)

You'll also get filters.  Put one in the line of every phone, fax machine, answering machine, etc., that's connected to the phone line.  Just remove the line from the wall jack, plug the filter into the jack and plug the phone or other device into the filter.

Oh, and plug the power cord or wall wart from the modem into the wall for power.
