  1. I was told to always mention the gift they gave you and what you will use it for....

    Aunt Jane,

Thank you for the lovely dish set, we can't wait to use it for entertaining!

    Maria & Mason,

Thank you for the monetary gift, we were able to take a scuba diving class. It was amazing.

  2. congrats!

  3. Thank you for your gift we will appreciate

    it all through our marrige.

  4. http://ourmarriage.com/html/thank_you_ca...

  5. dear ______

Thank you for sharing our special day with us, it meant alot having you there. Thank you so much for the _____, we really loved it....blah blah blah (it really help us start out on married life together!)

    With thanks and love,

    _____ and ___

why did i get a thumbs down for that!?!?

  6. The format I am using is...

It was a joy to be able to celebrate our wedding with you. (or something similar) If they did something really special on the day, I am mentioning that too.

Then, "Your gift is beautiful and ... " mentioning how we will use it.

It's not hard once you get into the swing and remember that they will only get one, so they won't know if you recycle a phrase.

  7. I would say, " We would like to Thankyou for your presents at our wedding and helping to make it the most special day of our life."!

  8. First of all let me say that writing thank you cards seems to be coming a lost art. I know many of my friends as they got married never sent thank you notes out. I had mine done before I even left for my honeymoon.

    Here is one idea:

Thank you for sharing our special day with us and for the thoughtful gift.

  9. Dear Aunt Betty & Uncle David,

Thank you very much for your gift of cash. It will undoubtedly help us as we start our lives together. I am so glad you could be at our special day. Thanks again for your very generous gift.

    love,

    Jane

  10. you should come up with it yourself

    it's supposed to be personal...

    say thank you

  11. Something like "Thank you for sharing our special day with us.  We really appreciate your being there".  You can also thank them if they gave you any sort of gift.  Try not to write them all with the exact same words, though.  Take a moment to think of each person as you're writing the card for them.  I'm sure once you get started you'll come up with more.

    Good luck!

  12. Dear Jane ( or Dr. Mr and Mrs Doe)

It was wonderful to see you at my wedding.   thank you so much for the (lovely/wonderful/beautiful/useful)  toaster.

How did you know that i was planning for my kitchen acessories to be turquoise?   it looks wonderful and John and I have been able to enjoy BLT sandwiches, often - your toaster does the toast perfectly.

Thank you again, and John and I hope to see you again soon.

    Sincerely (or love)

    your name and hubby's name

    OR

    Mr. and Mrs.   his name

  13. You can say:  Thanks for the ________.  It goes nicely in my house.  Also, thank you for sharing such a special day with me and _______.  There are no better friends we would have rather shared our day with.  Sincerely, _________.

  14. Thank you for sharing our special day with us, we really appreciate everything you've done for us.

    love,

    ----------

  15. Thank you for sharing the special day with us and thank you for helping us start our new life together.

  16. Hi.  I urge you not to do a generic thank you to everyone, such as....

"Thank you for being a part of our special day and for the gift."

That is a no-brainer.  Take your time and do each one with the guest in mind.  Thank them for coming (if they came), and mention the gift by name (if a gift) or if money/check say something about what you will put it towards.  It is so much nicer getting a thoughtful thank you note than a generic one.

Dear Aunt Betty and Uncle Fred:

It was so nice that you were able to come to our wedding.  We hope you enjoyed yourselves.  Tom and I want to thank you for the generous check that you gave us.  We need to purchase many more things for our new home, so we plan to use it for some outdoor entertaining items.  Again, we hope you had fun.

    Love,

    Amy

Obviously, if this is a co-worker or friend, you will do the appropriate salutation, etc.

    Hope this helps!

  17. Write... Thank you so much for the frame, one of our honeymoon pictures will look great in it. Also Thank you for sharing our day with us. Blessings, Your Names

Be as personable as you can, it takes a little more time but your friends and family are worth it!

  18. I used something along the lines of " Thank you for your presence at our joyous occasion." yah da yah da then something about how you loved their gift..

  19. I basically said the same thing on every one.

If they gave us a gift, I would thank them them for the specific thing, "Thank you so much for the blender, I can't wait to make some margaritas!  It meant so much to us that you were able to come to the wedding."

If they gave cash, "Thank you so much for your generous gift.  Husband and I are so thankful that you were able to share our special day with us and it wouldn't have been the same without you!"

If they didn't give a gift, "Thank you so much for sharing our special day with us.  It meant so much that you were able to join us."

  20. Thank you making our wedding special, and for your generous gift.

  21. got married 2 years ago...here's an example

"dear aunt and Unlce, it was so nice to see you at our wedding. Thank you for sharing our special day..we were so glad you could be there. Thank you for the generous gift we will be using it to _____"

wedding giving you a gift?? If it is a gift say something

like  Husband and I would just like to thank you for some for thecoffeemaker'. It was so very thoughtful and generous of you. You will be sure we will make good use of it. Once we

get the hang of it we will be sure to have you over for

    coffee and cake.

    Again our sincerest thanks,

Husband and I would like to thank you for the lovely picture.

It looks so well in our. livingroom and every time we look at

it we will rememberyou and your generousity.

Husband and I would like to thank you for the lovely quilt. It looks perfect on our bed and the colour is just right. When we curl up on a cold winter night we will remember you and your generousity.

Hope this helps. Congratulations on your marriage!

  25. when i did my thank you's for our wedding luncheon we put something like the following

    Dear .....

Thank you so much for joining us in celebrating our very special day. Your presence truly meant a lot to us. Thank you so much for your generous gift, we will definitely be using it well!

    Sincerely,

    Mr & Mrs....

(of course the generous gift is assuming they gave your cards with money because that's pretty standard)

  26. Here is an article that I found that should be helpful:

When writing wedding thank you cards, it's easy to get stumped on what to say, particularly when you don't know the person well, or when you just don't like the wedding gift. Make it easy on yourself by following these samples.

With all of these examples, use the more formal greeting "Dear Mr. Smith" or the more casual greeting "Dear John depending on how well you know them. You can also adapt the closing accordingly, e.g. "Sincerely," "With love," "Best Wishes," and the like.

A thank you card to a close friend or relative:

Dear Aunt Ann and Uncle Joe,

Thank you so much for the gorgeous lace tablecloth! It is beautiful and

we were both incredibly touched that you gave us this family heirloom. It was wonderful, as always, to see you at the wedding – I especially loved jitterbugging with Uncle Joe. I can’t wait to catch up on your news and tell you all about the honeymoon and newly married life.

    With love,

    Christine

A thank you card to someone you don’t know very well

    Dear Mr. and Mrs. Johnson,

Thank you for the beautiful vase that you sent Christine and me as a wedding present. I know we will enjoy it for many years to come. It was wonderful to finally get to meet you at the wedding. We really appreciate that you were able to witness such a happy day for us and our families.

    Sincerely yours,

    Todd Markham

A thank you card when you’ve received cash or a gift certificate

Use the thank you card to tell the givers how you used it. For example:

    Dear Terry and Vicky,

Todd and I wanted to thank you greatly for the check you sent for a wedding gift. We are saving to buy a new car, and your gift will help us reach our goal. We can’t wait to take you for a spin around the neighborhood.

    Best wishes,

    Christine Markham

A thank you card for an item off of your registry

    Dear Jack,

I am writing to thank you for the place setting of china that you so kindly sent for a wedding gift. Todd and I now have a service for eight. I’m sure we’ll use it for years to come. Wedding china is such a thoughtful gift and an instant family heirloom.

    Thanks again,

    Christine Markham

A thank you card for a donation to a charity

    Dear Alice,

Thank you for your thoughtful wedding gift to the ASPCA in our names. As you know, this charity is very dear to both Todd and I; they do such wonderful work for all of the animals in our area, as well as across the country. We can’t imagine a more wonderful present than a donation to such a cause.

    With best wishes,

    Christine Markham

A thank you card when you don’t like the gift

    Dear Mrs. Goreham,

Thank you for the wedding present of the velvet painting of dogs playing poker. It is certainly a unique gift; you are always so thoughtful and generous. It was so nice of you to join us at our wedding, and Christine and I hope to see you soon.

    With love,

    Todd Markham

A thank you card for someone who sent a gift but wasn’t at the wedding

    Dear Mr. Jacobs,

Thank you so much for the gold-plated doodad you sent Christine and me as a wedding gift. It was so thoughtful of you! I’m so sorry that you couldn’t attend the wedding – it was romantic and went just as planned. I’d love to get together soon so you can see the pictures!

    Best,

    Todd Markham

    Hope this helps! Good luck!
