I got married on 4Feb'2006 at Delhi. My wife belongs to Mumbai only. Now we (wife, myself and son) stay in Mumbai for the last one year and we both wanted to have a Marriage certificate so can it be done at Mumbai only or we need to refer Delhi court ? What are formalities and documents required for this?

  1. Well in this case if either of you do have some residential proof (ration card, passport mentioning Delhi Address, Voter’s ID card, Driving License, lease deed, gas connection, electricity bill etc)of Delhi then you can apply & get marriage certificate from Delhi under the Hindu Marriage Act,1955 (provided both parties Hindus & got married according to Hindu Form of marriage). In case of Mumbai you can get this marriage registered under the Bombay Marriage Registration Act, provided you are able to produce the Priest with his proof of identity who performed your marriage in person before the Registrar of Marriages & either of you have Mumbai address. Definitely the witnesses with identity proof for marriages will be also required for registration of the marriage at both places, also proof of marriage in the form of wedding card, marriage certificate of marriage issued by the priest or the temple, photographs of marriage ceremonies, age proof, passport size photographs & residential proof of both. I hope now you all understand when I insist people to get married according to the Civil form of marriage or court marriage under the Special Marriage Act, 1954, where the marriage, its registration & getting a valid marriage certificate is done at one time only & no trouble afterwards as one see in religious marriage cases such as this & many more seeking answers in Yahoo & other websites.

  2. i think you can get it at Mumbai... provided you have valid documents and evidence of your marriage...

  3. To my knowledge, you will get the marriage certificate where it was solemnised and registered.

  4. Visit ROM in Mumbai.
