I got me a pc game the sims 2 i download it to my computer but it won't play it says i need directx 9.0 ?

my computer is windows 2000 i can't afford a new one but i want to play the game where can a download directx 9.0 or higher?and is it free ? and when i do where do i the folder?

and when if a am to play the game where can download stuff for the game.

there are some versions of DX9 that won't run on windows 2000. best bet is to download it right from microsoft:

like go to maplesea.com go to download and there will be a link to download it  at the bottom. to download you don't have to download the game though

I got that error even when I had direct x.9.0 if you still get it after you download direct x then right click the Sims 2 icon go to properties and go to the end of the link that's says target and right after this " put (space) -w and it worked for me

i have tons of links where you can go to download but yahoo wont let me post all of them so if you want them i can email them to you

it's weird though that you you need to download it separately.  Games will usually prompt you during install if you don't have the DirectX version that the game needs.  After you download DirectX, just double click, and it should just install itself.

If you want free downloads for new clothes, hair, furniture, or things like that, modthesims2.com is a great place.  Their tech help section is also very helpful.

Make sure you go to the official Sims2 site to download the patches for your game and any expansion packs you might have.  Don't forget to register your game!  That way if you ever lose your code, EA will keep a record of it for you.
