Question:

I got my cartilage pierced 4 weeks ago, where can I buy "special" cartilage earrings?

The guy that pierced my cartilage said it is best to have a proper cartilage stud than a stud with a butterfly back.

I should of asked what he meant by it but I was more bothered about the huge needle!

I checked on eBay and there are some with a ball at the back of the stud, like this:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/UPPER-EAR-CARTILAGE-BAR-TRAGUS-IN-SILVER-AB-CRYSTAL_W0QQitemZ270266473367QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item270266473367&_trkparms=72%3A12|39%3A1|66%3A2|65%3A12|240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

Are there any UK shops that sells earrings similar to that - the backs, not the style?

Or are there any UK sites specifically for earrings with backs like that?

Thanks!

  1. I know that Claires Accessories sell these sorts of earrings.

  2. Check here:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?i...

    You can find it.

    Good luck!

  3. thats right!:-)

you should be ok with a normal stud for a short period of time (few hours) but it is best to use this type (the one in your link) because of the way the piercing 'is' and encase of scar tissue etc, also it is possible for skin to form in and around the butterfly back.

personally i think the best earring to use is a cartilage ring, they are diff types like ball closer , horse shoe etc...they look cool too:-)

(not saying i dont like studs though!!)

  4. For cartilage piercings you ideally need to use a barbell or a BCR (ball captive ring.) These are much better for the piercing as they move easier and lie better against your head when you sleep.

I've bought all my jewellery from the bodyjewelleryshop.com, they have a great and diverse range of jewellery for all piercings. Here's a few links to the pieces you need....

If you can, try pick jewellery that is either steel, titanium or PTFE (biomaterial with fantastic biocompatibility characteristics.)

Failing that, if you can't order them online, go back to the piercing parlour and buy the jewellery from there, good piercers normally have a good range of pieces for you to buy.

    Good luck, well done! x*x

  5. Well you've got the right type of earring there (i just got mine done was well)

I didnt find any websites for you (sorry) but you can go to a piercing parlor and buy some cartilage earrings there....or any other place that sells body jewelry for that matter :)

    Hope that helps!

  6. What needle gauge were you pierced with and what type of jewelry did the piercer place in? Depending on the piercer, usually unless if you where pierced with a needle either 16G or 14G you can place in a barbel type of body jewelry, just like whats on your link. Usually cartilage piercings heal much better on barbells since the skin will be unable to grow on the back of the ball. But if you were pierced with a small gauge the only type of jewelry that will be able to be placed in is either a regular type of ear stud or hoop.

  7. i've   had mine pierced forever and i use regular earings..the ones with the balls on the end are what i use for my nose piercing... i'm in the states but i'm sure all ears are the same lol...try Claires or Icing if  you have them there....
