I got my children a hamster?

He's in a good home with us, he has water, food and even a little house. But she doesn't seem happy. She just walks around the perimeter of her cage and tries to get out.She scratches and claws, it seems like she's trying to find way to escape. We have another hamster(dwarf hamster) and she's completely content in her cage.

I didn't get the new hamster from a pet shop, i actually got her off of our local freecycle. She doesn't bite but seems very unhappy.

Is this normal? Should i get her a bigger cage? Do i need to think about giving her a better home? My kids like her and have even named her noodle. It will be sad if i should happen to give her away. What do you think?

  1. I'd just give her some time to get used to her new environment. I had a mouse that was like this... it may even be that she's just active and trying to find a new place to go/play. Does she have any toys? She may just be bored.

  2. First of all, I would probably give Noodle a little time to get used to her/his new enviroment and then I would start getting worried if this continues. You could try giving the hamster treats such as yogurt drops or even give Noodle a toy to play with. They might just need some time to adjust.

  3. give noodle some toys.

i know they this big cages with plastic tunnels that go to little upper compartments and wheels.

    my hamster loved it.

  4. Those clear, ball shaped exercise balls help hamsters who need to move more and want to see things outside their cage. You can look for something like that and let her wander around the home in it.
