I got my house broken in to and they had to pull up most of the carpet ?

There was glass embedded inside the carpet so they had to rip it up. Most of the carpet is gone and was thinking since they have to replace it I can get wood and pay the difference. how much more would wood cost and should I install it myself? One company said it would be 1800 more. Thats seems high, Should I get a different estimate?

the insurance will pay to to fix the house back to the way it was before the robbery!  You get a check for the amount it would take to fix everything and then you do what you need to do with it.  So if you wanted to do wood or anything else that is up to you.  I would get a few estimates before you make any decisions but my dad did hard wood through out our 7000sqft house by himself, it all depends on your skills with tools.  

if you are going to do it your self i would buy the hard wood from a direct distributor you can find them on the internet.  Just pick which one you want and have them make you a qoute then go down to the Home depot or lowes and find out how much the tools would cost to rent and which ever ones you would need to buy (you can find directions and the tools you need either on the internet or ask the sales man from the wood distributor)  also home depot always has those classes on different things around the house.  

and then weigh that price with the amount that the contractor wants to charge you.  It sounds like allot but it is simple.  I just hope your good with a hammer.  good luck!
