I got my iPod from best buy last christmas and it just broke is it still under warranty?

I know apple has a one year warranty for all iPods but I got this as a present for x-mas and my parents got it from best buy but didn't get a warranty and are trying to find a receipt will they still replace it?

check your papers if you still have them. there should be something about a warranty.
