Question:

I got my period but have not ovulated?

I finally got my period on Aug. 7th of this month after 8 months of not having my period post baby. We want to start trying for a baby right away as it took us awhile with our first. However, I have not ovulated this month as of yet. I started using ovulation sticks the day after my period ended...is it too late to ovulate this month or should I keep using the sticks? Does it take a while for your cycle to regulate at first? Advice, suggestions? Thanks!

  1. You ovulate on days 14-17 after your period started. So, if you have a normal 28 day cycle, you should have ovulated on August 20-23.

It can take a while to regulate your system, especially if it's your first period since baby.

I would think that you are probably not going to ovulate this month. Here in about a week and a half you will be having another period. I would save your sticks and use them then.

  2. Once you start your period, your chances of ovulating for the cycle has ended.  You usually will ovulate about 14 days before your period starts.

After about 10 days from the start of your period, start testing again.  I recommend the clearplan fertility monitor.  I always went crazy trying to read the lines on the OPK sticks.

you could have very well had an anovulatory  cycle this last time as it was your first cycle since childbirth.

    Good luck to you!

  3. It's pretty common to have several anovulatory cycles when your cycle returns.  Be patient, and enjoy trying for now!
