I got my wisdom teeth pulled because they impacted/blocked my 2nd molars from coming in.

My gums were incised for a period of time, and I was told to irrigate the holes in my gum so food would not get stuck in them and remain there when the gum healed over. Unfortunately, I irrigated them as best I could but food managed to make its way beneath my gum, and now my bottom right gum is sore. If I press down on it I can feel the food there.

Will the food remain there forever? Do I have to get it surgically removed for the second time?

  1. only if it gets infected

  2. I don't think it will be there forever!  It's degradeable, for one thing.  I think it will work it's way out, but you need to keep trying to irrigate it.  What have you done to do that?  You could use a (clean) bulb that you would normally use to clean out ears and make a mixture of peroxide and water.  I know that sounds gross, but it may help.  I would also rinse with warm water any chance you get and DEFINITELY call your dentist.  What kind of food got stuckin there?  were you supposed to be on soft foods until they closed up?
