I have DSL service and DSL filters on both phones and my answering machine (no problem with my DSL service). This just began a week ago.

I have nothing cordless in the house (this computer has Airport capability)

Verizon's FAQ says it's probably an equipment problem if it only occurs on one piece of equipment but it now appears it's location-specific (i.e. downstairs).

I don't have their repair/maintenance plan so I need to figure this out. From the above it doesn't appear that getting a new phone will help. What WILL?

  1. Did you try 2 DSL filters? One of my phones needs two DSL filters to filter it all out.

  2. What kind of noise? if you listen with a landline (not cordless) phone do you hear noise? Dsl noise will sound like modem or fax tones at very low volume other interference would be buzzing or staticand colud be following the cable. Try a different jack or a different pair of wires on the jack your using. Ground any unused wires in your telephone cable Some devices can cause static on  phones through radio frequencys; laser printheads when in use, compressors for air conditioners or fridges, Walk around with a cordless phone (or better yet a baby monitor) and see if you can pinpoint where the noise is coming from. Then ground that device if at all possible.
