I got promoted i had tied up all my loose ends to leave for my new job then out of the blue my new manager phoned and told me the position was no longer available as they needed to cut back. Can they do this.

  1. Have you got a contract, signed and dated by all parties = NO, then yes they can - sign of the times I'm afraid

  2. SURE

    Not nice

They should reimburse you for all expenses incurred by you relative to move. . .movers, items stored/sold, travel, deposits on new apartment, costs of breaking lease, etc.

  3. If you had it in writing, then they technically have to go through the redunancy process.

  4. Yes they can because u officially haven't started. The day you punch a time clock is your official start date. Sounds to me something else is going on though did you have to do a background check or a drug screen and maybe something popped up that you aren't aware of?

  5. Unfortunately, yes, they can. Think of it this way, at least they didn't let you start then lay you off when the job got cut. (I'm assuming that you were allowed to keep your old position)

  6. Yes they can, as crappy as that is.  Were you able to keep the old job?  Employers can do what they want, I hate all of them.

  7. Unfortunately, yes they can.
