I tried looking that information up online. I'm in Orange County, so if anyone could give me an estimate on what I'll be paying, that will be appreciated. Will attending traffic school lessen points on my driving record and hopefully insurance repercussions? Thank you

  1. The statewide schedule for speeding 16-25 MPH over in violation of California Vehicle Code section 22350 calls for a fine of $266, and $146 fine for speeding 1-15 MPH over.  Orange County will be within a few dollars of these amounts.  Orange County does not allow their residence to take online traffic school, but traffic school (which will cost a bit more) can keep your insurance from seeing it so those premiums stay down.

    Additional Details:

    If you think you were only speeding 65 MPH and you think the officer's approximations were just slightly over 1% off, then there is a good chance you will end up only owing the court just $170 for fines and traffic school fees.  I would make it clear that I was not pleading not guilty in order to avoid conviction, but rather pleading not guilty for a special verdict or finding of circumstance in mitigation.  I tend to believe the hearing officer would be hesitant to subpoena the citing officer for trial and instead make such finding at your first appearance.

    */End of Line.

  2. Just to follow up on Superman's advice.  As far as the offense goes, there is no difference between going 15 mph over the limit and 16 mph over the limit, they are the same speeding offense.  If it is worth your time to go to court to save $120 bucks, more or less, all you will be doing is requesting traffic school but asking that the LOWER fine be imposed, since it is very possible that you were going 65, not 66.  (I think writing a ticket for 66 is pretty CS, since the only reason to choose such an odd speed is to make the driver pay the higher fine.)

  3. I tried tracking it down but it depends on what county you got pulled over in. Just google this:

    yourcounty speeding ticket CA 16-20 over

    Obviously replace yourcounty with the county you live in.

  4. Superman has got it right about the fines....the bummer about OC is that you have to take one of their approved traffic school.  Which means no online courses.  You have to physically go to one of their classes.  Bummer....there goes 8 hours of your day.

  5. It depends on the area but some say it's based on the actual number of miles that you were over and yes it'll affect your insurance.

  6. You will need to call the courts where your citation came from and ask what you will have to pay along with permission to take a traffic school class. Your insurance will go up anywhere from $10-300 depending on your Insurance company. I received a ticket in California and took a class online . The way they have it set up you don't need to take it all at once. I was able to log in and out as many times as I wanted during my free time and the system remembered right where I left off. Best place to do traffic school ONLINE is http://www.TicketRelief.com.
