  1. Dude. You are so screwed. You can't just plop any motor you feel like into a car in a state like California. I hope you didn't throw away your old motor, because frankly, a 91 or newer 1.8L is the only one that's likely to be passed.

From what I've heard, you need a motor that's no older than the car, that was originally offered in that car. Although that may not apply once the car is 20 years old, so I guess you could probably park it for 3 years.

  2. Don't wait until the last minute. If you were ticketed for 27156 b CVC you will need to make sure that all the emission control systems comply with the 93 requirements, including the valve timing electronic control system (VTEC) and are working correctly. Or If the 91 didn't have it (VTEC) then you should consider switching back to the 1.8L. Make sure you have a legal air intake, injectors, exhaust, timing gears, etc. Sorry.

The referee is the only one that can sign it off, and the DMV will direct you to the referee.

It must pass a complete smog inspection and emissions test. I have had experience with this before. If you don't get it right the referee will let you know.

  3. Sorry but the DMV won't do anything there. what you need to do is contact the bureau of automotive repair. You can go on the DMV website and they will link you to bureau of automotive repair.

  4. best to talk to the inspector at the dmv and ask him what you need to do. Thats who you will have to satisfy, anyway.

  5. as long as the engine is still equipped with the smog equipment for the 93 year you should not have a problem. that is a legal swap.
