My apartment was robbed last week and about $800 worth of gift cards were stolen. Could the police track my gift cards, cause I bought them online from eBay and I have number and everything. If he bought used them in a store could you track him or if he was to buy purchases from like American Eagle online to have it delivered to his house could you track him down? The police have access to the shipping address if I give them what giftcard he used right?

I mean its over $800 in clothing and electronics I was going to use for college, I really want them back.

  1. Robbed last week and you are asking for help on Y/A?  Last week would have been the time to call the police.  Sounds like an inside job to me.

  2. How do you know it was a he?  And how do you know where he used them??

  3. I would advise reporting this burglary (as opposed to robbery) to the police.

Depending on the workload and size of your police department, they may have a unit that handles this type of work.  They will investigate the crime as they see fit.

As for the possibility of tracking your stolen property, it is possible.  However, this would involve the cooperation of the company that issued the gift cards as well as the retailer that redeems them.  Considering the time elapsed between the incident and the report, I would be a little less hopeful about the recovery of my property.

  4. call the cops.. they'll tell you

also, buy a gun, dog, or alarm system..

cant always rely on government to protect you.

  5. good luck on getting them back, check your buddies, they may know where it is. who would know you had all those gift cards?

see if the stores have cashed them out with the reciepts you have. but good luck , that may be tricky to prove.
