I got sand in my bike gears?

if there anything i can do to get the sand out by myself

  1. Internal gears ... no, you would have to disassemble (and that takes tools and some knowledge). But external (mountain/road bike) gears, sure.

    Just take a cloth and wipe down the front rings (Chainwheels) and take off the back wheel and run strips of cloth (12" by 1.5-2") between the cogs while slowly turning them. If you want to get fancy use some citrus degreaser and a chain scrubber and a Park gearclean brush on the chain and freewheel, then add a thin coat of lubricant.
