Unfortunately, I was pulled in the crappy scam of poetry.com. I still think my poem is very well written and I would like to see if it would do well on another site that isn't a hoax, so can i still do that after i submitted a poem (and believed to be published) at poetry.com?

  1. The answer is yes. The poem is your copywrite as soon as you published on line. The only restrictions to posting is if you publish in a magazine or enter a contest where you win, They may require the right to retain exclusivity for a period of time. If you are looking for a good site to post try allpoetry.com. Good luck.

  2. Depends on the site rules. Many sites so despise poetry.com that they consider that if you put a poem on there, it has been published. Unfortunately many also consider if it is placed on the web other than their site, it has been published.

If you wish to publish your poetry, the best way is to make a book of them and go to a vanity press to have them published. You will have to try to sell the minimum quantity or give them away to try to generate a "buzz" in the publishing world.

If you do get some good reviews, you might be able to submit it to a book contest where you can win some fairly big prizes and also generate some prestige that will enable you to further published poems just about anywhere.

Another route and a longer one is to enter poetry contests with some very prestigious periodicals. You may have to pay to enter. You will find some good sources at WinningWriters.com. Best of luck.
