Question:

I got screwed by Charlotte Russe. Is there anything I can do?

Today, I returned jeans for a refund after trying them on at home (I didn't have time to try them on at the store) and not liking how they fit. The sales associate cheated me by not refunding the right amount. She, in fact, purposely circled a much lower priced item on the receipt as having been refunded instead of the one that I had brought back. I paid $26.99 for these jeans and she insisted on refunding me only $6.74 (price paid for a different item that was not being returned). As they didn't fit, I accepted the refund. I'm furious. What can I do? This Charlotte Russe store that has this irrational customer service is located in Stonecrest Mall, Lithonia GA

  1. That is not Charlotte Russe policy. You don't mention whether the tags were still on the jeans or how long you had them before returning.

The only reasons for an associate to do what she did are the tags not being returned or the time limit for returns having expired. If the tags were present and you returned the jeans promptly, the associate would have to have scanned the price tag to process the refund, so I don't see how she could have ripped you off unless she manually entered the sku #. In that case, the associate may have processed the correct return later and pocketed the difference. Unfortunately, this happens quite frequently with cash transactions. The fact is that 80% of sore thefts are done by employees.

I don't understand why you accepted the lower amount without first speaking to a manager, but that doesn't matter now.

You need to go back to the store with the item you did not return and the receipt you should have received with the bogus refund. Speak directly with a manager and tell them what the associate did. Demand the proper refund and do not take no for an answer. If they give you a hard time, tell them you will file a police report and a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.

  2. "Caveat Emptor" or "Let the buyer beware".

There is no reason why you should have accepted the refund of the lower priced item.  Proving that you actually returned the jeans and not the other lower priced item is going to be difficult since you already accepted the $6.74 refund, which the clerk incorrectly circled, but you accepted.  You can try to go to the store manager and attempt to explain the situation - but without proof, I doubt you will be successful.  Good luck.

  3. If you complain enough to the manager at the store and threaten to go their boss they will fix it. GO back to the store and make a d**n scene. It ALWAYS works bc they dont want to lose customers. Be all nice and calm at first and then flip out.  Take the other item you brought for $6.74 and show it to them. Y did u accept in the 1st place?
