Question:

I got some volleyball questions?

I was watching the female volleyball Olympics so I can look at basic things in volleyball since I'm needing to try out for for my middle school volleyball team....

I was wondering:

In volleyball, do each player only get a certain amount of times to hit the ball at once? Or do they only get to hit the ball 'one at a time'?

When someone tries to spike or something like that with the ball and someone on the other team blocks, are they not allowed to literally block the ball (like when both the spiker and the blocker are 'touching' the ball at the same time)? Or is the blocker only allowed to block the ball after when the spiker person hit the ball (when the ball is in the air, no one touching it).

--I only got these in mind, but if you have any other tips, that would be nice since I really don't know much about volleyball. :)

  1. multiple contacts.  The general rule is there a maximum of 3 contacts per side.  Blocks are not counted when counting contacts.  No one player (on the same team) can touch the ball twice in a row.  If the ball is blocked on its way over the net the count gets reset and then there are three more attempts.

Of course there are exceptions. On a hard driven spike the defending player can make multiple contact but it must be in a single attempt.  This is a relatively new rule that made it way to indoor volleyball from beach volleyball.  The other exception is after a block the same player can then make a contact on the ball.  Examples:  #1 the block sends the ball straight up on his side of the net.  The blocker can then jump again and spike the ball over the net.  #2 Blocker blocks the ball but it stays on his/her side of net and close to the blocker.  The blocker can then make the first contact and pass the ball to the setter.

Jousting:  This is when hitter and blocker contact the ball at the same time.  If the ball is not in the plane of the net then the hitter must contact the ball first.  (otherwise the blocker would be called for reaching over the net or blocking the set)  If the ball is in the plane of the net then it does not matter which player contacts the ball first.  These contacts may only be in a signal attempt.  If the ball goes out after such a contact, the player on the side the ball goes out on is thought to have touched the ball last.  So the other team is awarded the ball and the point.  The ref has the final call and may decide differently.

  2. A team can only hit the ball 3 total times, the ball has to go back over the net on or before the third hit, and no player can hit it 2 times in a row.  Don't know about blocking by touching the ball at the same time as the spiker, but they can't touch the net at all, so they probably just don't get that close.

  3. each team gets three hits, one player touches the ball once but if another player touches it after the player before can touch it, so u can't touch it repeatedly, when a blocker comes up to block the other person that doesn't count as a touch so if the block doesn't go through the team can can still play it three time, what happens is the hitter would hit the ball and in the split second the ball is off the hitters hand and thats when the blocker touches that ball

sometimes during games my team's blocker would block and sometimes the ball would get caught between the two of them, so usually we just replay it, so they just go up and block, it doesn't matter  if they're touching it the same moment, if the blocker blocks the ball and ball comes off to the hitter's side and if it goes out then the blocker would lose that point, last one to touch the ball is the one to lose a point if the ball goes out. bend ur knees is a key concept since u need to learn to bump, go on u-tube they have lots of videos on how to play volleyball, my advice is to move ur feet, even if u don't no where the ball might lead as long as u move it, somehow u'll get there, good luck,
