Question:

I got the trojan virus..?

I can't get rid of it..I've tried everything (that's free anyway). I was thinking about doing a system recovery (erase everything and start from scratch). I've done it once before it's just a pain in the ****, the whole 3-4hr process. I am curious though, I disconnected my computers internet and shut it down, can the virus still get anything from my computer? Also, my computer is pretty old (about4yrs old) and I am getting a new one soon. Is there anyway I can just destroy it and never turn it on again once I get my new comp? I don't want to bother with it and it's a secondary comp anyway. Thanks!

  1. theres no such thing as "the trojan virus" its classifing the type of virus you actually have. trojan viruses are ones that are able to sneak by unseen

  2. Are you sure it is  aTrojan as most AV's will remove the majority of them, however, they will NOT remove malicious codecs.

    Try the following free tools:

Note: You should hit all "Repair" buttons even though it may not say "Found!" This will fix a wallpaper hijack everytime if all repair buttons are pressed.

    or

click 'start' 'programs' then 'accesories' then 'system tools'

    then click 'disk degfragmenter'

SAVE ALL YOUR IMPORTANT FILES in ur other computer BEFORE DISFRAGMENTING the computer

  4. Download AVG Free 8 and update it. Then scan for viruses and you  can heal the viruses what it shows.

  5. If everything fail. Try Avast, it is free for personal use.

Avast Home Edition version 4.8 is an effective anti-virus program.

You MUST do a boot time scan in safe mode in order remove every single virus on your PC.

Even those viruses that hide inside the system restore folder.

  6. i suggest a couple of things. One a system restore might or might not work, windows restore really sucks.

Secondly is get some free software to take care of this.

    1. update your anti virus to the latest date.

    2. downlod spybot search & destroy, then run it

    3. SUPERAntispyware

    4. and if worst comes to worst download HiJack This!

If you don't want to deal with the pc again. Have a number of options. Yes you can just not turn your pc on again until you get a new pc and just throw the old one away.

or (i know this won't happen but hey) you could give it to me. I would pay for shipping and handling. I would be using it as random spare parts.

or you could format it and start over

  7. Have you managed to find out the name of the virus by any chance?

    what exactly is it doing?

System recovery is a LAST resort. (and so much EFFORT)

Internet won't make too much of a difference, once the virus is in, its in.

Not a bad idea just in case it can use the internet to transmit data and whathaveyou.

Running it in safe mode (F-something at startup) is the best way to sort out viruses.

Try and get a copy of Kaspersky Anti-virus the commercial version.

    by get... I mean... yeah...

if you find out the virus' name you can google it or post it up and someone will tell you how to get rid of it.

Take it down to somewhere like PCWorld and explain what's wrong with it. They'll offer free advice (use that to fix the issue yourself) orif you can be arsed, pay for them to sort it out.

    sorry couldn't be more help.
