  1. You said it's old and smells.

I would just get rid of it. Sounds too risky.

Even if you did use it, it may end up costing

more in your power bill as compare to a new one.

    New one don't cost much.

  2. If it smells like it's burning, then don't use it anymore...it could cause electrical problems and a fire...if it just smells kinda funny...it's probably just a stale smell from sitting in an enclosed area for so long...either way, if it doesn't go away after 3 or 4 tries...get a new one, they are really inexpensive :)

  3. probably burning insulation.  it could cause a fire but most likely it will cause the fan to stop working...said to "burn out"  Do not leave the fan running when you are out of the room.  If you like the fan it can be rewired but new fans are inexpensive .. it would cost more to have it

repaired.  Best not to work with wiring unless you are knowledgeable about electricity.    good luck and stay cool.

  4. most likely dust, carbon monoide needs fire to be produced. with the prices today and pretty much disposable electronics making electonics available to nearly every one, just buy a new one and toss it. aint your life and home not burning down worth $15.99 for a good fan at wal-marts?

  5. if its just a fan, that means its just blowing around the air that's already in you room. You probably need to take it apart and clean the blades with some bleach.

  6. does it smell like mold (smell like a cave or a wet basement) or a burnt smell?  could need a good cleaning It may have a short
