  1. check with the store where you bought them. The good ones usually have a return policy if the animal/fish dies within a week or so of purchase... assuming you have the receipts, of course.

  2. They do usually sell old fish at places like walmart. They sit there forever in their little cups with little or no water changes.. living in filth..

So most likely the males were sick already if you had them in separate tanks and they couldnt see each other.

Fatter in just three days? True the females do get larger when they are full of eggs and ready to breed, yes.

You only have two females in one tank? You should get one more, they should be kept in odd numbers. It's a female betta pecking order thing.

Other than that I would take both males back and get a refund and purchase younger ones from a petstore chain that turns over more than walmart does.

But of course the best solution is to buy good stock from a reputable breeder locally or online. They ship fish all the time all over the world. But delivery is expensive.

    hope this helps!

  3. The tank has bad water conditions and the shock of the transporting has this affect on fish. It happened to my knifefish once. I would warm up the tank temp and add benefitial bacteria. Hope it helps.

  4. You have to be a little more specific on details...Were all the fish in their own tanks, separately? It could be the store you bought them from, but it could also be your water or my guess may be if you only separated two in one tank & two in the other...they fought to the deaths when you weren't looking ??? Are you using bottled water, tap water, using a conditioner in the tap water? Did you use bleach in the tank?

  5. They could be stressed could they see eachother?
