I grew up in Foster Care and would like to view my files from Social Services, is this possible?

Can I view my own files even thou when you are 18 they are sealed? How do I go about doing this? Any idea?

  1. Each State has its own criteria for dealing with these very personal documents, especially involving young children.  As you already know they are sealed records.  I would start my search in the State and then the County that you were placed, if you know this information.

If you remember who your case worker was and what city and state, then call there and ask for the case worker.  If it has been a long time, when you call, explain your situation and ask to speak to whoever manages closed files and deal directly with them.  You will definitely be asked to prove who you are, as they can't just give out info to whoever claims to be the person in question.  You may need to have a lot of the info right at hand.  If it is appropriate and you feel you can deal with it, enlist the help of some of your foster placements to assist you as well.  Hope this helps!  Good luck!
