I am 18 now, do you think it'll ruin my chances of getting this job as a preschool teacher?

  1. They should be be able to deny you a job because of medical history.


  2. You need to find out what type of TB you had.  Without that info there's no way to answer your questions properly.  There are a few variables that would make a difference.

  3. If you have ever had TB, a skin test will always show up as positive. All that means though, is that your body has the antibodies for TB. Assuming you were treated when you were four, and you haven't been coughing up blood for the past 14 years, you either don't have TB now, or you have it in a latent state where it is NOT contagious. You will probably be required to take a TB test to work in a preschool. Be prepared for the positive skin test, and make arrangements to have a chest X-ray in order to prove that you don't have active TB. Your school may also require you to get tested more frequently than other teachers. But they cannot deny you a job because you are not contagious.
