I have some bumps on my areolas that get sore and sometimes i can squeeze puss out of them.. gross! (any idea what these are?) but i was checking them out and noticed that i can still get drops of "milk" out of my nipples after 5 months.

I had my baby in march, and I breastfed her for about a month. So, Is it normal to still be able to get drops out this far after having a baby?

  1. Yes, completely normal. Although the puss doesn't sound normal-you should get that checked out. Anyway, I was still able to get a few drops of milk 3 years after having my son. Just leave your nipples alone (stimulating them may just produce more milk) and it will go away eventually.

  2. I breastfed for four months and it took about two years before my nipples wouldn't have milk squeeze out of them. Leave them alone and it will resolve itself. If your breast start to get painful or hot to the touch then call your OBGYN.

  3. I only breast fed my daughter for a couple of days and it took 3 months in all for my milk to dry up so I guess it's normal. As for your areolas it would be best if you just left them to settle and if they become painful or start oozing more, see your health practitioner.

  4. the bumps are glands that protect your nipples (they produce moisturizer that keeps nipples from cracking)

milk wont magically just disappear it will take many months to years to completely dry up which is why you can relactate, start breastfeeding after a several month break

  5. Okay, the bumps are your milk ducts and the pus? Most likely just really thick breast milk that hasn't reabsorbed yet, if it ever will. I'm 20 months post delivery and I still have them, and if I wanted to squeeze them I'd get the same result, lol. However, you really should just leave them alone, if you play with them constantly, you could end up starting to lactate again, lol. Those ducts are what causes milk to flow when baby sucks at your breast, and you can also get seriously infected(mastitis) if you mess with them alot as you always have germs on your hands.

    Good luck

  6. My baby is 2 months and I only breatfed for about 2 weeks. I still have some drops of milk coming from my b*****s too.

  7. Of course, consult your doctor.  But, as a former nursing mother I can tell you:  If you squeeze it it will come.  You take it out the body will replace it.  You could have this colostrum for the rest of your life.  No big deal.  In nature woman would be nursing for years.  Babies like that!
