Question:

I had a beehive in my car?

We had bad storms today, so after they ended, I went back to clean out my floor mats. I happened to look over and see 2 bees on a hive in my car. It was where the door closes, kind of stuck in there. I took a broom and got it out, and the bees flew. One of them is now flying around my car with stingers (I guess) hanging off of him. There is still some kind of substance where the hive was. Down below, I see something that could be a larvae. Or maybe glue-my car is about 9 months old. What should I do? Are these bees going to come back? And how did they get in there. I always leave my windows up. Could they have squeezed through the door crack?

I am really thankful they did not fly out of there while I was driving!

  1. Wow--that's kind of scary!  I have no idea how they got in there.  Was your car stored for a while without being used?  It doesn't seem like they'd want to build a hive in a car that's being used regularly.

As for what you should do, you could call a beekeeper to identify if it's indeed larvae in your car.  My parents had a beehive, and a beekeeper came out and gassed the bees and removed the hive.  Another suggestion is hairspray.  I had a wasp in my house once, and I sprayed it w/hairspray.  It was immobilized, and I was able to pick it up and put it outside (I don't know if it survived or not).  You may want to keep hairspray handy in your car just in case.  Good luck.
