Question:

I had a black toenail (it got better), but after a hard workout it started to bleed. Should I be concerned?

The toenail went black about a year ago. It never hurt or anything, just looked nasty (you guys know what I'm talking about). At the beginning of this summer it came off and there was a normal toenail underneath. Everything was fine and dandy until a really tough hill/speed workout today, when the area around the nail was bleeding. It didn't hurt, either. It was just... bleeding.

  1. Tough to say, the bleeding underneath or around the nail I'm not sure about may want to call a podiatrist to see what they say.  I had your toenail experience happen twice (mine was painful for about 4 days).........when running a half marathon.  Long story short ....the shoes I wore were fine for 5K's but running that long foot expanded and didn't have enough room in the toe area.  Also when training for long distances (other shoes) I always used duck tape and tape up the one or two I feel it may happen with.  It's a pain, but rather not have it happen again.

  2. The old one came off and the new one is growing in. Your shoes sound like they are too tight or too small. Those things might happen as it grows back in. Might want to keep a band aid on it while you run.
