Question:

I had a credit card dispute

I have a disputed charge that I want reversed or charged back from my credit card to a company where I did not receive the services. I've waited 2 months for that company to resolve this and give me my money back. They still have not. So I tried going through my credit card company to dispute the charge. Now they tell me it will be 90 days for an investigation. Why can't they just take my word for it and credit the money back to my card? Why does this take so long, I mean it will be 5 months total?

  1. Did you send the dispute in writing to your credit card?  Don't count on a phone call.  You are lucky they are considering it at all.  Most credit cards only give you 60 days to dispute charges.

In the future, dispute with your credit card company right away.  That way you won't be waiting for so long.

  2. Heh!  Nobody wants to give money back.  They sure like taking it though.  Your credit card company probably will NOT take that long but gives you the outside time frame.  It's a PIA but you will eventually get your money back.  You can always go to that business's web site and give them poor rating.

  3. Contact this company again, and again and again, each time make sure you get a Name of whom you have spoken with write down thier name, time and date you spoke with them and ask If they also have an employee ID# write it all down everything that is said! Ask to speek to a suproviser, make the same notes, refuse to take no for an answer. Each time you contact this company contact your Credit card company, (make the same notes; name of whom your talking with, date and time, employee ID#) tell them about your conversation with the company in question, details from your notes. And again don't take no for an answer. Make them understand you have contacted this company several times and they refuse to fix the issue on thier end.  If all else fails, threaten to take your credit card bussiness else where (close the account)

I'm not sure why it would take 90 days for an investigation, other than you have a crappy credit card company. I Had a dispute with a charge on my discover card and after talking with the company responsable for the charges several times and nothing ever happening, I finally called my credit card company and explained it to them, and explained I had contacted the chargers several times with no out come, and Discover had a charges add back to my account by the next week, with no paper work.
