to drive the company van

All the insurance companies I have phoned say over 5 years it does not affect them and they do not count.

Do you think my boss is bulls***ting me?

  1. Are you in the UK?  In that case  a d&d (drunk & disorderly) has nothing at all to do with your driving record.

If you mean a drink-driving offence, that stays on your licence for 11 years;  I don't know what the procedure is for group policies, perhaps they are interested in ANY endorsements.

  2. Actually, you have to have your license restored for 5 years.  So if you had the incident in 2003, but your license wasn't restored until 2005, you still have to wait 2 years to be eligible.

Two things you can do to make your boss feel better.  Have your personal insurance carrier write a "non-owned" endorsement to your policy.  This extends your liability to any other car that you do not own.

The second thing is to have your insurance carrier write your boss as an "Additionally Insured" on your policy.  This means that he is covered for your driving mistakes.

These two steps will be the equivalent of having you on his policy.  Then, your boss won't have a problem letting you drive the company car.

  3. No. There are companies who keep to 10 years for this offence.

  4. it is possible that commercial insurance may differ to personal.

i personally dont know why they are asking about over 5 years ago.

all i can say is find out the name of the company give them a call (without giving your details ) and just ask what their policy is on motoring convictions if they say over 5 years then ask them to check your policy specifially and tel you the x/s

an insurance company is not allowed to lie and if they r like my company they record all calls and note conversations on records so if they say 5 years its recorded and they honout it

  5. You might talk to your own insurance agent or one not affiliated with where you work to find out whether or not this is bull.

  6. The high excess is only there in case you have an accident. Is the boss asking you to pay the excess or just pointing out the fact. Just do not have an accident or drink and drive. After one year the excess will probably come down. The boss might be offering to have a high excess as a way to bring down the premium.

  7. Company policy's are different when writing a blank policy to cover all employees.

  8. erm yes, even though i don't really know what you're talking about...
