I had a dream that I was looking for evidence that a neighbour was a serial killer ?

I was in a family as a kid (which I am not, 34) we didn't have a-lot of food. I went out one night and found some evidence that didn't carry much weight and it wouldn't be useful if I used it. the next before it got too dark. I was hiding in a half visible place. there were 2 big domestic Cats to protect me, but I had to come back later. I found something and thought that it could be brought to me magnetically. I had a citizens radio and started a big conversation on one line.

I got to school and started wondering 'besides displacing particles, what is energy' (meaning electricity and magnetism) and got a scholarship to a university.

Depending on the meaning you may attach to certain of the visible things in your dream and the feelings you experienced afterward, your dream appears to be one of discovery - and being thwarted in earlier days from freely using your curiosity.

Notice the attention to details - threads of things that may be, not hard evidence of what is.  You seem to see what others miss.  

Being thrown back into your childhood seems to take you back to a more magical existence - think of how much of what you shared that we loose as adults.  Not having alot of food may be from literal recollection - but somehow I take it more as a figurative thing: perhaps your family was not very understanding of the curiosity you had and the mental adventures you may have tended to pursue.

That now you move through this exercise of the things you describe and arrive at a scholarship underscores the value you sensed in these traits.  Others may have thought you a day-dreamer while you understood the curious nature of one who would explore and understand great things by the subtle hints all around us.

The neighbors possible hidden fiendishness is likely just a representative thing - something sigmificant but tantalizingly hiddne from full view.  You experience suspense - danger - in being 'half-hidden' you are 'half in view'.  Cats themselves are associated with all manner of things from royalty to power to even evil.  These guard you - they seem classically oriented toward that stealthful watchfulness we know of the cat.  That implies a sense of deeply stealthful thinking on your part.

Now the more metaphysical parts of the dream: telekinesis comes into play, but you do not mention success with it.  It remains then a wonder to you.  Ah, the wonder of it all - could the radio have facilitated discussion with another, someone remote, who understands your views better than others closer to you?  Reflect on that and just whom it could be.

The wonderment about energy carries you further into the journey.  Unless you are a physicist you've now landed on the profound for an amateur.  This borders on the kind of wonder that Tesla must have had as a child: that flux we cannot see - WHY is it and WHAT is it?  We can know the theory, but can we know the truth?  What does make the universe hum?

Even to wonder such things in a dream suggests a bit of frustration or sense of loss that talents felt by you earlier in life did not bring the fruit you may now feel you deserved.  At your age of 34 you have likely now hit the ground and run some distance on life's treadmill.  By your age that can have one thinking of what might have been, what was left behind - "if only...".

Think of these things and how you felt about the dream in recalling it.  Think too of your own context - now and of the past.  Does any of this fit?  You would have to decide, but your dream well suggests such a journey.
